Officially, “March Madness” is a title used for the NCAA Division 1 Basketball Tournament(s). However, the world of footwear is enjoying a “March Madness” of its own — Nike, adidas, Reebok and more have a championship-level slate of kicks releasing this week. HYPEBEAST‘s Weekly Footwear Drops has whittled these releases down to the 10 best, but before we dive into ‘em let’s take a primer on what went down last week.

On the feature front, the latest installment of Sole Mates saw BMX star Nigel Sylvester discuss how the Air Jordan 1 meets his athletic and aesthetic needs, plus what collaborating with Jordan Brand was like. We also asked if the sneaker industry was ready for a early ’00s revival due to the renewed popularity of styles like the PUMA Speedcat and served up a first look at the BAPE x New Balance 2002R.

Last week was also the biggest week for adidas YEEZY news in quite a while. The YEEZY line’s slate of upcoming styles began being revealed en masse, namely the YEEZY 450 “Dark Slate,” the YEEZY 450 “Cloud White,” the YEEZY FOAM RNNR “MXT Moon Grey” and “Sand,” the YEEZY BOOST 700 V2 “Cream,” the YEEZY BOOST 700 MNVN “Cyan Blue,” and the YEEZY SLIDE in “Core” and “Orange.” We were also given an early look at the Prada x adidas A+P Luna Rossa 21 in gray and saw official images of the Sean Wotherspoon x adidas ZX 8000 SUPEREARTH.

Moving from the Three Stripes to the world of the Swoosh, the most stunning piece of news was Ann Hebert — Nike’s North American VP and GM, who’d worked for the company 25 years — tendering her resignation after it was revealed that her son was a major reseller. On the ever-eventful Dunk front, the biggest news was an official reveal for the Supreme x Nike SB Dunk Low collection, which you’ve seen above, of course. Apart from Supreme, we checked out the SB Dunk Low “Gulf,” plus Nike Sportswear’s Dunk Low “Team Green.”

Looking at Jordan Brand, the latest Doernbecher Air Jordan 1 was revealed. Boasting a “What The” style, limited to a scant 17 pairs and only available through auction, its inaugural offering was halted after a suspicious $2.25 million USD bid. Apart from the DB, we saw rumours of a Supreme x Air Jordan 1, checked out official images of the Air Jordan 1 “Light Army,” and even had a chuckle at Air Jordan 1 “Chicago”-inspired hockey skates. Lastly from the Jumpman was a detailed glimpse at the A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 3.

Caught up? Let’s get into this week’s 10 best releases. Per usual, note that any pairs listed below may be pushed back due to the continued effects of the coronavirus and head over to HBX to check out even more new footwear styles.

Supreme x Nike SB Dunk Low Collection

Release Date: March 4
Release Price: TBC
Where to Buy: Supreme
Why You Should Cop: Supreme and Nike SB’s four-pack of collaborative SB Dunk Lows have sneakerheads and Supreme collectors from all walks of life practically frothing at the mouth. Arriving in “Black,” “Hyper Blue,” “Barkroot Brown” and “Mean Green,” the quartet of starry styles are inspired by Supreme’s legendary SB Dunk High collaborations from 2003, but chop the top off and switch up the signature shades for a new-yet-familiar look.

Nike Dunk Low “City Market”

Release Date: March 4
Release Price: $110 USD
Where to Buy: Nike SNKRS
Why You Should Cop: A wild patchwork sneaker inspired by urban grocery stores, the Nike Dunk Low “City Market” presents a collage-like upper with pieces that nod to the upcycling of coffee bags and rice sacks. There’s something different on each and every panel, making for a shoe that’s a detail lover’s delight. You can even catch a callout to Nike predecessor Blue Ribbon Sports if you look closely enough.

The Whitaker Group Nike Waffle One

Release Date: March 4
Release Price: $120 USD
Where to Buy: Social Status and A.P.B.
Why You Should Cop: Originally scheduled to release last week, the Whitaker Group’s exclusive Nike Waffle One was pushed back to not take attention away from the plight of those without power or water in Texas. However, good things come to those who wait, and there’s now a charitable aspect at play: the raffle for this Bowerman waffle iron-inspired shoe now includes an option to donate money to Black Houston-area families in need.

Nice Kicks x adidas Ultra4D “Have a Nice Day”

Release Date: March 5
Release Price: $250 USD
Where to Buy: Nice Kicks
Why You Should Cop: Nice Kicks and adidas know tie-dye, and for their latest tie-dyed sneaker collaboration they’re looking to the Ultra4D. Dubbed “Have a Nice Day,” the two-tone spiral style mixes black and white for a straightforward-yet-carefree look inspired by “enjoying the elements during these confining times.”

Nike Dunk High “Dark Curry”

Release Date: March 5
Release Price: $120 USD
Where to Buy: Nike SNKRS
Why You Should Cop: Is it even a 2021 release week without a staggered region-exclusive drop from Nike Sportswear? This week’s entrant is the Dunk High “Dark Curry,” an earthy style that blends two different brown suedes and a rich amber Swoosh for a look that’s frankly more SB than Sportswear. It rolled out in Europe earlier this year, but this week marks its US arrival.

Palace x adidas Stan Smith Collection

Release Date: March 5
Release Price: TBC
Where to Buy: Palace
Why You Should Cop: Though Palace is never above taking the piss out of anything and everything, the British skate brand also treats icons with reverence — something it’s done in spades on its new Stan Smith collaborations. Offering bold colorblocking and special heel graphics, the latest effort between the brand with the tri-ferg logo and the Three Stripes is a loud, lavish take on one of the more understated designs in the adi archives.

Reebok Pump Omni Zone II

Release Date: March 5
Release Price: $140 USD
Where to Buy: Reebok and Foot Locker
Why You Should Cop: Originally made famous by Dee Brown in the 1991 NBA Dunk Contest, the Reebok Pump Omni Zone II is back in all its original glory. Boasting a black and white color scheme and centered around a basketball-inspired Pump button on the tongue, the Omni Zone II is still flyin’ high, 30 long years after it first released.

adidas YEEZY 450 “Cloud White”

Release Date: March 6
Release Price: $200 USD
Where to Buy: YEEZY Supply
Why You Should Cop: The adidas YEEZY 450 has literally been teased for years. Now, if early reports hold, it’s finally set to arrive to market this week in a “Cloud White” colorway. Designed by Kanye West and Steven Smith, the 450 “Cloud White” features a knit upper and exaggerated sole unit that creeps up onto the top half, causing it to be memorably compared to a soup dumpling. Though this isn’t a common parallel to draw for a sneaker, the “Cloud White” will be one of adidas’ biggest — and boldest — first quarter releases

Air Jordan 1 “University Blue”

Release Date: March 6
Release Price: $170 USD
Where to Buy: Nike SNKRS and Foot Locker
Why You Should Cop: Supplying a familiar University of North Carolina color scheme with a new hybrid suede/leather construction, the Air Jordan 1 “University Blue” is a very 2021 update on a classic Jordan Brand style, nodding to the silhouette’s genesis while introducing some new concepts into play.

Reebok Question Mid “Why Not Us?”

Release Date: March 6
Release Price: $140 USD
Where to Buy: Reebok and Foot Locker
Why You Should Cop: Reebok’s second All-Star sneaker to release this week, the Question Mid “Why Not Us?” was first a PE sported by Allen Iverson in the 2001 NBA All-Star Game. When Iverson lead his undersized Eastern Conference team to a stirring 21-point comeback, the simple white and black Question became immortalized, and this marks AI lovers’ first chance at securing a pair since its last release in 2006.
