Labor Day Weekend was quite the eventful one in the realm of pop culture as Drake finally dropped his highly-anticipated Certified Lover Boy album, Kanye’s diss track to Drake that featured Andre 3000 trickled out and Shang-Chi finally made its theater debut. And as the month of September moves into its second week, the biggest footwear brands such as Nike, New Balance, adidas and more are aiming to take part in all of the action with a handsome crop of new releases. However, before we dive into those, let’s first break down all of the action that went down last week.

On the exclusives front, HYPEBEAST took time to sit with NYC-based chef James Kent to discuss his deep connection to the UNION x Air Jordan 1 for our Sole Mates series. Additionally, John Geiger and his new legal defense team provided us with exclusive statements regarding his current case against Nike over the GF-01. News was popping off for a handful of brands last week as well. Nike and Drake previewed collaborative Certified Lover Boy merch — one of which was a team-up with NBA Champion, Giannis Antetokounmpo — along with teasing G-Dragon’s Kwondo 1 and officially unveiling the fragment design x Nike Dunk High “Tokyo.” Jordan Brand made its presence felt as well with reveals of the Air Jordan 14 “Red Lipstick”, Air Jordan 1 “Dark Marina”, Air Jordan 11 Low IE “Bred” and an Air Jordan 5 Low PE for the Florida Gators.

adidas previewed a plethora of forthcoming iterations such as Pharrell’s adidas Humanrace Sičhona “Burgundy”, Kanye West’s adidas YEEZY 500 “Ash Grey” and adidas YEEZY 450 “Dark Sulfur” and an Ultra4D collaboration with A Ma Maniére. New Balance brought light to various iterations including its 990v4 collab with JJJJound, more GR 550 colorways, a 57/40 “Protection Pack” and a Salehe Bembury’s 574 “Yurt.” Additionally, Salehe Bembury also provided first looks of more Crocs colorways and Reebok uncovered GORE-TEX-lined Zig Kinetica II Edge styles for the Winter season.

Did we get you all caught up? Amazing. Let’s get into this week’s top releases. And when you’re done, be sure to head over to HBX to check out even more new footwear styles.

fragment design x sacai x Nike LDWaffle “Light Smoke Grey”

Release Date: September 8
Release Price: $170 USD
Where to Buy: SNKRS
Why You Should Cop: The relationship between Chitose Abe and Nike only continues to grow stronger with time. And for their next move, they’re capping off its partnership with fragment design with the final release of the “Light Smoke Grey” LDWaffle colorway. This makeup has already been released by various retailers, but it will finally see a stateside release via a Nike SNKRS draw. Minimalism is the key with this three-way offering as the uppers contrast with gray uppers and stark white accents, while the treading and midsole branding contrast in black.

CLOT x sacai x Nike LDWaffle “Orange”

Release Date: September 9
Release Price: $170 USD
Where to Buy: SNKRS
Why You Should Cop: In the realm of sneaker collaborations, sacai has become a household name. And this Fall, Chitose Abe’s label is joining forces alongside CLOT and Nike to produce a duo of striking LDWaffle collaborations. Both will reference CLOT’s archival Nike projects, one of which is the Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death” — which saw a return to the market earlier this year. Synthetic base layers and overlays are most done up in a sandy hue while bursts of neon orange, red and green follow suit.

Levi’s x New Balance 990v3 “Grey” and “Indigo”

Release Date: September 9
Release Price: $220 USD
Where to Buy: New Balance
Why You Should Cop: After teaming up with New Balance for a 992 and matching apparel collection, Levi’s is reconvening with the Boston sportswear imprint for a two-pronged 990v3 capsule. The “Indigo” and “Grey” installments are executed with base layer that’s engineered with of Levi’s famed Shrink-To-Fit denim — which is often utilized on the iconic 501 jeans — and extra hairy sude overlays inspired by the back of Levi’s leather patches. Additionally, Both pairs also feature a Levi’s pocket tab stitched to the quarter panel’s N logo.

Supreme x Clarks Wallabee

Release Date: September 9
Release Price: TBC
Where to Buy: Supreme
Why You Should Cop: After aligning with the New York Yankees for a full apparel collection, Supreme is expanding its footwear catalog with yet another team-up with Clarks. The collection centers around the classic Wallabee model and comes in four colorways including a black, coral, green and beige. Each take is made with woven uppers and leather lining, and comes packaged with hang tags that are decorated with each party’s logos.

Air Jordan 1 High “Prototype”

Release Date: September 10
Release Price: $170 USD
Where to Buy: Foot Locker
Why You Should Cop: Jordan Brand tends to pull from many different muses, and this forthcoming Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Prototype” draws from exactly what its moniker states. There are certain elements here that embraces the “unfinished” theme such as the perforated lines that sit beneath the collars — which are suggestive to wearers if they would like to chop the shoes and morph them into a low-top — the exposed stitchings around the Swooshes, mix of blue shadings, the extra toe box borders and the Swooshes that are affixed to the lower throat.

Palace Skateboards x Salomon XT-6

Release Date: September 10
Release Price: TBC
Where to Buy: Palace Skateboards
Why You Should Cop: Following up on its XA COMP ADV collaboration from 2020 and the Speedcross 4 a year earlier, Palace has reconvened with Salomon for a trifecta of XT-6 colorways. Each take is dressed up with a modernized digi-camouflage pattern that drapes across the upper, speckled midsoles as well as Palace branding on the edges of the toe boxes and on the heels of the medial walls. Included in this range is a more understated beige iteration, a stealthy black with neon green accents version as well as a wild multi-colored installment that has purple uppers with bursts of green, red, and orange.

adidas YEEZY Quantum “Onyx”

Release Date: September 10
Release Price: $250 USD
Where to Buy: adidas
Why You Should Cop: Now that the release of DONDA is in the rearview mirror, Kanye West can now direct his attention back to his line of adidas YEEZY releases. And next up on his agenda is a launch of the adidas YEEZY QNTM “Onyx” colorway. From a design perspective, this newest iteration follows the same cadence that a YEEZY BOOST 380 that dropped under the same moniker in 2020 was presented in. A majority of the real estate here is drenched in solid black while notes of gray show up on the wavy overlays, toe tips and the heels.

size? x adidas Originals Campus 80s “Fight Club”

Release Date: September 10
Release Price: $138 USD
Where to Buy: size?
Why You Should Cop: Streetwear and footwear retailers size? Has linked up with adidas to release and exclusive Campus 80s colorway inspired by the legendary film Fight Club. Base layers of the kicks are devised differently to nod to Tyler Durden’s split personality. The left foot bears a “Hustler” theme while the right nods channels “Project Mayhem” vibes. Moreover, the shoes have cigarette burns around the top eyelets, distressed midsoles, and printed insoles, and the bottoms print out “Fight Club” in its signature pink title hue. Rounding out the collaborative pair is a shoebox that’s inspired by the movie’s pink soap.

Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 990v3 “Outside Clothes”

Release Date: September 10
Release Price: $220 USD
Where to Buy: New Balance
Why You Should Cop: The New Balance 990v3 has quickly picked up some this year with striking collaborations, and next in line is the global launch of Joe Freshgoods’ “Outside Clothes” variation. Inspired by joys of summertime Chicago — his hometown — the sneakers are presented a blend of brown shaded and bold blue uppers to nod to the earth and sky. Subtle notes of green also come into play here to reference luscious grass.

adidas YEEZY BOOST 700 MNVN “Honey Flux”

Release Date: September 13
Release Price: $220 USD
Where to Buy: adidas
Why You Should Cop: Even after executing one of the most unique album rollouts the music business has ever seen, Kanye West is now looking to beef up his footwear catalog with more YEEZY offerings. Up next is the adidas YEEZY BOOST 700 MNVN “Honey Flux”. Reflective lateral wall branding and accompanying black accents found on the chunky midsoles, overlays and heels are kept consisntent while the lateral and medial panels are filled in with a Fall-friendly “Honey Flux” hue.
