JAY-Z Shares Favorite Songs of 2019: Kanye West, DaBaby, Summer Walker & More
Giving some shine to veteran and rising acts alike.
With 2019 soon on its way out, “Best of the Year” lists encompassing everything from fashion to music to food have been released far and wide by the likes of Barack Obama, Grubhub and even here at HYPEBEAST. JAY-Z is now the latest to enter the chat, recently sharing his “Year-End Picks” for his favorite hip-hop and R&B songs in a star-studded playlist on TIDAL — and as it turns out, the billionaire has been jamming to many the same buzzy records that we all have.
For starters, rising rap star DaBaby received several nods stemming from his two latest albums and one of his recent features: “Suge” from his March project, Baby on Baby, the “INTRO” record from his September release, KIRK, and he and Megan Thee Stallion’s summertime hit “Cash Sh*t.” While the latter marks Megan’s only spot on the line-up, JAY-Z also made sure to acknowledge a few other breakout female artists today. Snoh Aalegra’s “Here Now (Intro)” from her -Ugh, those feels again LP, Jhené Aiko’s catchy “Triggered” anthem from May, and Summer Walker’s popular “Playing Games” track featuring Bryson Tiller all got some shine.
Emerging artists helmed up some of JAY-Z’s other hip-hop selects as well, such as Pop Smoke’s ”Welcome to the Party” and SAINt JHN and Lil Baby’s ”Trap.” And various entries from standout hip-hop trio Griselda made the cut, including the lead single from their WWCD project, “Dr. Bird’s.” Veteran acts were also favorited, with songs from the likes of Rick Ross and Drake (“Money in the Grave,” “Gold Roses”), and even estranged collaborator Kanye West (“Follow God”) peppered throughout. And not to be forgotten, JAY-Z’s wife Beyoncé and sister-in-law Solange were highlighted with tracks from their respective Lion King: The Gift and When I Get Home albums.
