Nike Sportswear‘s Air Max 90 has appeared in two ACG-themed colorways: “Persian Violet” and “Pollen Rise.” Joining other popular lifestyle silhouettes like the Air Force 1, React Element 55 and Air Max 270 React in receiving ACG-adjacent makeovers this spring, each of these AM90s offers a bold early ’90s color scheme and plenty of potent detailing.
“Persian Violet” mixes a plain primary hue with bold, colorful accents in a style commonly associated with retro ACG apparel. A steel gray ripstop base and black suede mudguard provide some semblance of order before giving way to warm purple, gold and pink tones, which spread across everything from the toebox to the eyestays, heel badge and midfoot Swoosh. Midsoles mix a gray forefoot with a purple and pink Air Max setup to complete the look.
Meanwhile, “Pollen Rise” salutes the ACG Air Escape with a pitch-dark navy base and navy suede mudguard. Gold and purple accents are present here as well but pink is gone completely. In its place is a cool aqua blue that’s used with abandon and provides an undeniably appealing contrast with the dark navy base shade. Bone midsoles with navy Air Max setups round things off.
For a final great outdoors touch, each pair also comes with thin, flecked rope laces, insoles with a printed graphic inspired by vintage ACG magazine ads and a matching ACG “Hike Man” hangtag. This melding of two Swoosh Brand lines runs deeper than tasteful color palettes: the legendary Tinker Hatfield designed both the Air Max 90 and ACG icons like the Mowabb as well.
The Nike Air Max 90 “Persian Violet” and “Pollen Rise” both released in limited quantities at select US stockists in February, but their Eastern release is set to go down on March 25 at Nike SNKRS China and other Swoosh retail outposts. MSRP for each pair is set at ¥899 CNY (approximately $126 USD).
