Nike ACG (All Conditions Gear) is a subsidiary line of Nike that produces innovative athletic apparel and sports gear for all climates. Debuting in 1989, Nike ACG tried to widen the scope of outdoors-oriented sneakers true to its name. Backed by the likes of Tinker Hatfield, Tory Orzeck, Robert Mervar and Peter Fogg, the ACG line built up a cult-like following with its non-commercial, off-the-wall image, bold colorways, and silhouettes which have since inspired sneakerheads for decades, such as the Air Mowabb, Air Mada, and the Air Escape. Differentiating itself from pre-ACG silhouettes that specialized in off-trail environments, versatility was key for the ACG line. After about 30 years since its foundation, the revival of the ACG brand was announced in 2014 as a modern sportswear line dubbed NikeLab ACG, headed by Canadian designer Errolson Hugh, co-founder of ACRONYM, with the help of Matthew Millward, Senior Design Director of Nike Sportswear. Hugh at that point had garnered an impressive reputation for technical apparel and a philosophy for form following function. The first new NikeLab ACG apparel collection was aligned as utilitarian sportswear apparel for the urban metropolis and comprised of outerwear, portable storage and footwear, including Flyknit Chukkas and LunarTerra Arktos. The line boasts durable garments focused on mobility and protection from the elements, while incorporating more abstract conceptions of mental readiness as influenced by Hugh’s martial arts background.
