Nike Brings Back the Air Flight 89 in OG "Black/White"
Celebrating the silhouette’s 30th anniversary.

After a brief three-year hiatus, Nike has revitalized its Air Flight 89 in the OG “Black/White” colorway. A throwback Nike Basketball silhouette with a built-in fanbase, the Air Flight 89 first released in 1989 and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
Although it’s long been overshadowed by the Air Jordan 4 — which also debuted in 1989 and features identical midsole tooling — the mid-cut basketball sneaker has carved out a niche of its own. It’s been sported on-court by Michael Jordan‘s longtime Chicago Bulls teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, became somewhat of a cult classic among Nike Sportswear lovers and even wound up on the feet of one Kanye West before he signed with adidas.
A classic “Black/White” colorway marks the ’89s first return to market since 2016’s tonal NikeLab iterations, making a point of getting all the classic styling correct. The upper is constructed of a black tumbled leather, which is accented by white midfoot trim and white plastic eyestays. The branding is all white too, with the elevated midfoot Swoosh, tongue badge and heel hit all standing out boldly against the dark base. Down below, the aforementioned AJ4-style midsole is split between black and white, with a white outsole completing the look.
The Nike Air Flight ‘89 “Black/White” is available now on Nike’s site. The retail price is set at $120 USD.
