Update: Shortly after officially unveiling its complete collection with Jordan Brand, Awake NY has announced the collection’s official release date. You can expect it to touch down via Awake NY’s flagship store at 62 Orchard Street in New York City and the brand’s webstore on March 9, with an early raffle on EQL launching on March 6 and release on SNKRS forthcoming as well. Along with the announcement, official images of the Awake NY x Jordan Air Ship have been revealed, which can be seen directly below, along with more details on the collection.

Update: Awake NY has officially unveiled its collection with Jordan Brand. Centered around the Awake NY x Jordan Air Ship — the first collaborative sneaker between the two parties — and offering a seven-piece capsule of apparel, the collection is a love letter to New York City’s influence on basketball and street culture. It’s also somewhat of a full-circle moment for both parties as Michael Jordan was born in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, before his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, an under-the-radar piece of MJ’s history, much, in the same way, the Air Ship was long a hidden part of his footwear lineage.

Jordan Brand aficionados have had plenty of time to get familiar with Awake NY’s iteration of the Air Ship, as it was first revealed during the opening party for the brand’s Orchard Street flagship in June 2023, but this marks the first full look at the shoes’ accompanying apparel collection. The centerpiece of this collection is a richly detailed wool-and-leather varsity jacket (first revealed by Awake NY brand director Hugo Mendoza during a recent appearance on SNKRS Live) with chenille patches on its chest and back, snakeskin details on its sleeves and other embroidered hits. There’s also an acid-washed flannel, co-branded sweatshirt, sweatpants, T-shirt, shorts and hat, all of which are on display in the collection’s lookbook which spotlights members of the Awake NY community like Ev Bravado of Murder Bravado and Ruba Abu-Nimah, the former creative director of Tiffany & Co. and was shot by Christopher Currence.

Awake NY also created a short film dubbed Where I’m From to accompany the release. Directed by Anthony Jamari Thomas, the film takes place in Fort Greene, and features cameos from Carmelo Anthony, DJ Clark Kent, Rowdy Rebel, Kitty Ca$h and community figures, alongside Bucketfam Global, a Brooklyn-based youth sports organization.

Official release details for the Awake NY x Jordan Brand Air Ship and its accompanying apparel will be announced soon, so check out Where I’m From and the original story/previous updates below to get caught up before the drop.

Update: It’s been over eight months since we caught our first glimpse at Awake NY and Jordan Brand’s collaborative Air Ship colorways. Now, with its release expected to take place this spring via Nike SNKRS, Awake NY and select retailers at a price of $150 USD, we have a closer look at the “University Red” look. The detailed breakdown highlights the shoe’s special co-branding, leather build and snakeskin texture. Stay tuned for updates as we await a closer look at the “Royal Blue” iteration, as well as official assets from Nike for both pairs.

Original Story: Awake NY and Jordan Brand are kicking off a new partnership in 2023, and their first collaborative project is a colorful take on the Air Ship. Revealed at a raucous and revelrous opening party for Awake NY’s new brick-and-mortar flagship in NYC’s Lower East Side — where it was displayed in “if you know, you know” fashion, hanging from the ceiling without any fanfare — the sneaker marks a new chapter for Awake NY’s footwear projects.

Though the exact design inspiration of Awake NY’s collaborative Air Ship has yet to be revealed, it features a boldly-mismatched color scheme: red snakeskin accents and red trim can be seen on its right foot, while the left foot provides blue snakeskin accents and trim. This yin-and-yang of colorful embellishment is balanced with silver Swooshes, white leather uppers, “aged” midsoles and outsoles and an outlined iteration of Awake NY’s “A” logo stitched on the lateral forefoot.

The Awake NY x Jordan Air Ship may be the first collaboration between Angelo Baque’s brand and the Jumpman, but it’s far from their first piece of collaborative footwear. Besides the aforementioned ASICS partnership, which ran from 2019 to earlier this year, Awake NY worked with Reebok from 2019-2021, Timberland in 2020, Vans in 2021 and again in 2023, and Crocs from 2021-2022.

Release information on the Awake NY x Jordan Air Ship is forthcoming, and we’ll be sure to update you as soon as it’s made available.

While you wait check out Hypebeast’s extensive interview with Angelo Baque, in which he discusses the brand’s new store, the key to providing meaningful retail experiences and more.
