USM and Symbol Collaborate on Vinyl Storage Range
A flexible system that grows alongside your collection.
Swiss furniture label USM has teamed up with audio brand Symbol to create a four-piece storage collection.
The latest in a string of collaborations from USM, the Symbol collection includes a vinyl storage cabinet, a vinyl display cabinet, a record stand, and a record cart. Each is crafted from USM’s modular component system, and is made up of steel tubes and panels that are held together by connecting balls. This marks a departure from Symbol’s typical material palette, as the brand has become known for its work with solid wood.
“We’ve held USM in high-regard here at Symbol for a long time, not only for their incredible product, but the clarity of their vision for the world of furniture. The opportunity to work with their legendary catalog of components has been an exciting privilege that we’ve enjoyed from start to finish,” says Walker Tovin, Brand Director at Symbol.
Across many of the pieces, details inspired by record stores are visible. Infinitely expandable, it can grow to accommodate expanding collections, with the flip bin-style storage above, and open storage below.
The Display Cabinet allows for a gallery-like display through the use of tilting shelves. These can be lifted to reveal hidden storage, and also comes with optional integrated lighting. The Record Stand, on the other hand, offers an “all-in-one” option designed to integrate amplifiers and turntables. The larger versions of this particular piece include a record store-style bin, in addition to the open storage.
The collection is completed by two portable designs: the Record Cart and Record Crate. These smaller objects feature USM’s perforated metal panels and castor wheels, allowing the user to move their collection wherever they need to. “These are two portable designs that are ideal for recording studios, DJ set-ups or anyone looking to integrate vinyl into their environment in a flexible way,” the brand says.
