The Weeknd's 'After Hours' Struggles Continue With New "Until I Bleed Out" Video
The latest episode in his new album’s ongoing visual narrative.
After debuting three new After Hours bonus tracks late last week, The Weeknd returns with yet another hallucinatory, strung-out and somber music video, this time for the After Hours (Deluxe) version’s “Until I Bleed Out.”
This marks the third music video in the ongoing episodic saga featuring the superstar wandering through a universe that’s half Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, half 1980’s Scorsese, donning his red velour jacket and broken nose. The Weeknd announced his new project with “Heartless” featuring the hypnotizing lights of the Las Vegas strip with a cameo appearance from producer Metro Boomin. “Blinding Lights” found the XO frontman speeding through downtown Los Angeles in the new Mercedes-Benz EQC backed by 80’s synths and punchy programmed drums. Then “In Your Eyes” took a turn to the horror genre, with uncomfortable strobe lights and an unexpected decapitation taking place.
To further the importance of the visual narrative, The Weeknd and his collaborators created a bonus five-minute After Hours short film that picked up where his Jimmy Kimmel Live! performance left off. “Until I Bleed Out” is the culmination of the party running its course, with an exhausted Abel fighting fatigue and confusion as the meaningless celebration around him simply won’t stop. There’s even a subtle House of Balloons-era nod as the video features confetti and balloons throughout.
