New Orleans Pelicans #1 overall draft pick Zion Williamson made his NBA debut during a Wednesday night game against the San Antonio Spurs, so Jordan Brand bequeathed him with a special Air Jordan 34 “Bayou Boys” PE to celebrate the occasion. As Williamson is arguably the most hyped prospect to hit the hardwood since LeBron James, all eyes were on his play — and his feet, thanks to the special Air Jordan’s unique construction.
Dressed in a backwoods-style flat olive, the design blends elements striking, elegant and explosive, much like Williamson himself. Uppers are composed of a sleek mesh, with looks and support simultaneously bolstered by faux gator material on the heel, eyestays and tongue. Various brown hues offer further contrast, and pops of infrared ensure a slight touch of hi-vis detailing. Standard Jumpman hits appear on both the tongue and forefoot, while the heels are split between a “Bayou Boys” motif, presented in a dripping Goosebumps-style font. Small toothed lace deubres nod to Zion’s vicious nature on the court.
Down below, the AJ34’s signature tech provides sturdy stability and explosive cushioning in equal measures. This is achieved thanks to a firm TPE Eclipse Plate that holds a sizable Zoom Air bag in its forefoot folds. The EVA heel encases another Zoom unit to soften Williamson’s thundering landings, and an outsole with a traditional herringbone traction pattern completes the look.
As it is indeed a PE, the Air Jordan 34 “Bayou Boys” will not see a retail release, but you can expect Zion to take to the court in several more 1-off styles over the remainder of the season.
