Jordan Brand is officially bringing back the classic Air Jordan 12 “Obsidian” for a early 2027 release. The return marks the first time the original high-top colorway has been available at retail in 15 years following its last retro run in 2012.
First introduced in 1997, the “Obsidian” silhouette holds a distinct position in the Air Jordan 12 lineage as one of the few original colorways that eschewed traditional Chicago Bulls colors. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the sneaker features stitched leather upper panels inspired by Japan’s Rising Sun flag, paired with stark white mudguard overlays and subtle Carolina blue accents along the branding details.
The 2027 iteration stays faithful to the original specifications, restoring the dark navy leather base, textured white mudguards, and signature stitched detailing. While an Air Jordan 12 Low version dropped in 2004 and the high-top last retroed in 2012, the colorway remains one of the most recognizable non-court-worn models in Michael Jordan’s signature catalog.
