Watch the First Trailer for Spike Jonze's 'Beastie Boys Story' Documentary
Coming to Apple TV+ in April 2020.
The first trailer for Spike Jonze‘s forthcoming documentary Beastie Boys Story has landed. Opening with an introduction of the trio rapping the lyrics of “Paul Revere,” the visual shows archival footage from interviews and music videos, along with clips of surviving members Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and Michael “Mike D” Diamond during 2019’s “Beastie Boys Story – A 2 Person 1 Man Show About 3 Kids Who Started a Band Together” event.
Beastie Boys Story is set to detail the group’s history — both as one of the world’s most revered bands and as a band of brothers. Ad-Rock and Mike D voiced their delight in having long-time friend and collaborator Jonze helm this homage. “There are some friends you have lunch with so many times over the years, you know their order,” the two said in a statement. “Spike is one of those friends. And even when you don’t recognize anything on the menu, he comes up with something good for the whole table. Like when we wondered what to do when our book comes out… then Spike placed his order: You will put on a show for the children.”
Jonze, who also directed the “Beastie Boys Story” live event and is releasing a Beastie Boys Rizzoli photo book, shares a similar sentiment. He explained, “I owe Beastie Boys a lot. One time, they pulled me out of a burning ship, and another time they helped me cheat on my college exam to get into Florida State. So, it was a real privilege to get to reunite with them and help them tell their story.”
