Rian Johnson Developing 'Knives Out' Sequel
Focusing on Daniel Craig’s character, detective Benoit Blanc.
Rian Johnson is already working on a sequel to his Golden Globe-nominated film, Knives Out.
The filmmaker confirmed the news to THR at a pre-Globes party, revealing that the second installment of the whodunit will focus on Daniel Craig‘s character, detective Benoit Blanc. Producer Ram Bergman also noted that Craig, who was nominated for a Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy award, was already on board. “Daniel had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do more,” Berman said.
Knives Out was applauded as one of the best films of 2019, garnering a whopping $247.5 million USD in the box office with a $40 million USD budget. On top of Craig’s Golden Globe nomination, the movie received a nod for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical and a Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy nomination for Ana de Armas. While Lionsgate itself hasn’t given a part two the green light just yet, company chairman Joe Drake mentioned to THR that he’s eager to read the script.
As they await the go signal, Johnson is currently in the midst of developing a new Star Wars trilogy for Disney and Lucasfilm while Craig finishes his final stint as James Bond in No Time to Die.
