Saint Laurent Drops $2,655 USD COTODAMA Lyric Speaker Canvas
Displaying lyrics on a screen to “provide constant inspiration and motivation.”
Saint Laurent has been enlisted by Japanese music-tech purveyor COTODAMA for the release of the Lyric Speaker Canvas. The connected speaker plays music and displays the song’s lyrics on a screen, which is the front board of the two-piece device.
The back is a Hi-Fi speaker unit branded with Saint Laurent’s logo. The speaker is designed to be placed or leaned against a wall like a piece of art, as lyrics are displayed on a screen to provide “constant inspiration and motivation through the power of words.”
COTODAMA translates from Japanese to English as “words have a soul and the power to change people’s mind.” It is this that drives the brand’s ethos as it strives to bring lyric culture back to the forefront of music, referencing a time when vinyl records were at a high. Vinyl records also play a part in the Lyric Speaker Canvas’ design, as it looks like a carry case and record jacket.
The collaborative speaker is made from 50% ABS, 30% acrylic resin and 20% steel and is compatible with Airplay, Chromecast, Spotify and more. The limited-edition Saint Laurent x COTODAMA Lyric Speaker Canvas is exclusive to Rive Droite locations in Paris and Los Angeles, and is priced at $2,655 USD. More information about the speaker can be found on the Saint Laurent website.
