Nike Unveils Glowing "Phantom Green" 2019 Zoom Series Silhouettes
Lightweight fabrics and carbon fiber plates galore.
Nike has unveiled the 2019 lineup for its progressive Zoom series, this time around featuring the Air Zoom Pegasus 36, Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2, Zoom Fly 3 and ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT%.
The focus of each silhouette is speed, and all four sneakers will release in a Nike-only version of neon green, dubbed “Nike Phantom Glow.” The colorway generates a glowing effect that will be unique to these four models, which each feature touches of yellow, orange, white and black.
First up is the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36. The flagship sneaker returns to 2019 with a reengineered mesh construction that features perforations around high-heat areas. The heel collar and tongue are slimmer than before, making for a more supportive fit, and the shoe is rounded off with its much-loved Cushlon foam-encased, full-length Zoom Air unit.
The Zoom Pegasus 2 features a lighter transparent construction that is paired with lofted mesh and midfoot bands to lock in the foot securely at high speeds. Nike has given the sneaker a clean white sole unit and a contrasting outsole in a retro-running-themed gum hue.
Next, Nike has reworked the Zoom Fly to also be lighter, applying a transparent upper to its React midsole for a more responsive ride. Incorporating a full-length carbon-fiber plate in the sole unit for heightened responsiveness and a new arch-band lacing system that offers a more adjustable fit, the sneaker comes together as one to minimize Achilles strain and protect wearers from road impact.
Rounding off the 2019 Zoom Series is the previously seen ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT%. This is the Swoosh’s most advanced offering for 2019, having been co-developed with the help of top Nike athletes. The Swoosh has constructed the upper from a new fabric called Vaporweave, which is lighter and less absorbent than Flyknit. 15% more Nike ZoomX foam was added to the sole unit for increased energy return and the entire shoe was reworked to be more stable under pressure.
