Apple Reveals Second Generation AirPods Complete With Wireless Charging Case
“Hey Siri” is confirmed.
After months of speculation, Apple has officially revealed its updated AirPod design. The new take on the wireless headphones features a specially-designed H1 chip which delivers performance efficiencies, faster connection times, more talk time and — as was earlier rumored — hands-free “Hey Siri” functionality.
The “Hey Siri” function makes it easier to change songs, make a call, adjust the volume or get directions. All a user will need to do to access this is say “Hey Siri.”
The second generation AirPods also come with two options of charging case, with either the standard case or a new Wireless Charging Case. Both cases hold enough charge for more than 24 hours of total listening time. The new Wireless Charging Case can be charged wirelessly with Qi-compatible charging solutions.
The AirPods with a standard charging case are priced at $159 USD, while AirPods with the Wireless Charging Case will retail for $199 USD. The standalone wireless case is set to retail for $79. In addition to this, AirPod users can add a personal engraving to the cases and AirPods for free during check out. Orders via the Apple web store are open now, and the second generation AirPods will release in stores next week.
This is Apple’s latest product announcement, following confirmation of new iMac processors and new iPads. The tech giant is also set to debut its streaming service on March 25.
