Kaytrananda Serves up Velvety Rhythms & Grooves in 'BUBBA'
Listen to the long-awaited sophomore album from the Montréal artist now.
It’s been a long time coming for Kaytranada’s second full-length project. Following the release of his highly-acclaimed debut project 99.9%, the super-producer went on to flex his instrumental prowess with a variety of standalone releases, continuing to exude his thick rubberband basslines, sun-dripped ‘80s synths, snappy percussion, and signature armament of vocal-heavy features. Late last month he declared that his return was nearing, noting that his sophomore project was finished. Earlier this week at Intersect Festival he shared that the project, titled BUBBA, would drop this week, dropping the project lead’s single “10%” featuring Kali Uchis. Now the Montréal-based artist has come full circle, releasing his highly-anticipated BUBBA in its entirety.
Stacked to the brim with heavy-handed features, the 17-track project sprawls over a resounding 50-minutes, tapping Pharrell, Mick Jenkins, Tinashe, Estelle, GoldLink, SiR, Masego, and many more for the undertaking. Across the project, Kaytranada propels his eclectic style forth — he reembarks on his nostalgia-infused direction that’s spritzed with hints of soul, house, hip-hop, R&B, and more. Velvety chord progressions and silky synths, thick basslines, and sharp percussion push the project’s uplifting bedrock forth, laying down immaculate rhythms and grooves for the various cameos to effortlessly ride alongside.
You can stream BUBBA below. Kaytra has also provided a variety of merchandise and wax vinyl for the project — purchasable here.
