BEAMS & New Balance Team up for Mismatched 990v5
Part of BEAMS’ extensive pop-up capsule at Nordstrom.

As part of its extensive Nordstrom pop-in capsule dubbed Concept: 007, lauded Japanese brand BEAMS has worked with New Balance on a special 990v5. Featuring NB’s recognizable grey palette with BEAMS’ ever-sharp eye for detail, the made-in-the-USA collaborative sneaker is simultaneously whimsical and practical, providing an appealing amalgamation of signature styles.
Both feet feature the same soft grey suede overlays and silver midfoot N logo with black trim, but differ greatly in the hues presented by each mesh base. The right shoe uses a stark steel grey on the toebox and a light airy shade on the heel, while the left shoe offers a quite literal yin to its counterpart’s yang by offering a soft toebox and a dark heel. Jeweled flag badges on each tongue and a small pop of hi-vis reflective material on the heels add flair, while down below the 990v5’s signature sleek ENCAP midsole provides comfort and support.
Part of the larger Concept: 007 collection, which sits alongside collaborative offerings with lauded American brands like Polo and New Era, the BEAMS x New Balance 990v5 is available now at Nordstrom for $255 USD.
That’s not the only special collaborative project New Balance is working on with its 990 series: it recently teamed with red-hot Aime Leon Dore for new styles of the 990v2 and 990v5.
