Volcom Becomes US Snowboarding Team's Official Apparel Partner, Replaces Burton
Ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Volcom has recently signed on to replace Burton as the US Snowboard Team’s official apparel sponsor ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The partnership will see Volcom outfit both the male and female US Snowboard Teams, including the Snowboardcross, Slopestyle/Big Air and Halfpipe athletes during the upcoming Winter Olympic games. The sponsorship will reach participants, coaches and various support staff during the World Cup, World Championship, national events, and Olympic training camps.
In terms of product, Volcom will offer the teams enhanced gear featuring Zip Tech, a zipper system that prevents snow from entering zipped jackets, and the brand’s proprietary Thermal Defense System, which includes three-layer jackets with carefully placed down panels to offer the ideal amount of warmth. Red, white and blue, along with camouflage-inspired Volcom gear will be provided to the teams.
Andrew Gauthier, marketing and communications manager for US Ski & Snowboard, told WWD that “one key difference between the partnerships is that Volcom will be taking co-branded outerwear products to the retail market,” so fans can likely expect collaborative gear available for purchase in the near future.
This announcement follows news that Authentic Brands Group acquired Volcom’s intellectual property from Kering back in April. Burton has outfitted the US Snowboard team for the past four Olympic Winter Games and has not yet responded to the announcement with a comment.
Authentic Brands Group also recently acquired Barneys New York after a drama-filled auction process.
