The 30th anniversary of the GEL-Lyte III is right around the corner, and ASICS is set to kick the festivities off a little early by bringing back the OG “Citrus” colorway. An original style that helped launch the GEL-Lyte III back in 1989, the “Citrus” offers a crisp look, lovingly recreated in celebration of the silhouette’s impending milestone.
The GEL-Lyte III has grown into a street style favorite over the last three decades and served as the centerpiece of desirable collaborations by a laundry list of sneaker industry stalwarts: Afew, Ronnie Fieg, atmos and BEAMS, just to name a few. However, there’s nothing that tells the shoe’s tale quite like its very first colorway.
Using a crisp white for its primary color, the “Citrus” calls upon a lemon-lime mixture of dark forest green and high-vis neon yellow for its accents. The former is most prominent on the heel and toebox overlays, while the latter makes its mark on the collar, signature split tongue and laces. There’s also a touch of dark texture to be had here thanks to netted black plastic mesh on both the lateral and medial quarter panels. The midsole encases ASICS’ signature GEL cushioning, while mixing white, grey and green tones to further contrast the upper’s stylings. A black and yellow outsole then completes the look.
The ASICS GEL-Lyte III OG “Citrus” will release at retailers like AFEW come November 15. The MSRP is set at $120 USD.
