'The Grudge' Reboot Takes Place During the American Remake and Original 'Ju-On'
The new film features John Cho.
Sony Pictures and IGN have offered the first trailer for the newest telling of the Japanese classic Ju-On. The film, simply re-titled The Grudge, will take place during the same time as the original 2004 American remake while also having ties to the original Japanese Ju-On franchise, which also has a Netflix adaptation on the way.
In the footage above, we see John Cho (Cowboy Bebop) starring in this latest iteration as a realtor alongside Andrea Riseborough who plays a police officer. As a newcomer to the town, she visits the haunted home that’s been grudged by a recent murder.
According to Comicbook, director Nicolas Pesce explains: “We follow her, as well as two other storylines, that are all interacting with this grudged house in small-town America.” Pesce continues: “like the old films, it’s a tapestry of three different stories that interweave and all take place at slightly different times, centered around this one house that’s at the center of this case that this cop is working on.”
Check out the footage above and catch The Grudge when it arrives in theaters January 3, 2020.
In other entertainment news, the extended cut of Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will feature 10 minutes of previously unseen footage.
