Avelino & Dave Reflect on Success in Punchy New Single "Cassius Clay"
Accompanied by a ’90s-inspired VCR-styled music video.
Tottenham rapper Avelino has teamed up with Dave on his newest track, “Cassius Clay.” The hard-hitting single drops alongside a Charlie Sarsfield-directed music video which captures Avelino’s hometown of London in a ’90s-inspired VCR tape style.
“Cassius Clay” sees Avelino’s ability to deliver bar after bar in his fast-paced flow, with nods to his success littered throughout with lines such as “Never had a godfather or my padre, so I went and got some Margielas for my madre.” Avelino continues with “I’m in Dior guess I’m preaching in Christian” and “Now I’m eating like a king had to work like a slave,” which further notes his rise as one of London’s most celebrated rappers.
Frequent collaborator Dave comes into “Cassius Clay” with references to his Mercury Prize-winning album Psychodrama. He also reflects upon his much-deserved success, and in true Dave form, notes current crises with nods to discrimination, racial issues and societal pressures.
“Cassius Clay” is Avelino’s first song since his track “Belly of the Beast,” which was produced for the recently-revived Netflix series Top Boy and featured alongside Dave’s “Professor X.” Listen to Avelino’s “Cassius Clay” featuring Dave on streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music below, and watch the music video above.
