Back in February, we covered a Wall Street Journal report that said Apple Music‘s rate of growth was more than twice that of Spotify‘s. Now, it looks like that piece’s projections and forecast might be true: as a newly-published Digital Music News piece reports, Apple Music now has more U.S. customers paying for a subscription than Spotify.

Digital Music News — along with many other popular outlets — cites an anonymous “major distributor” as their source, revealing that the industry figure at the center of the report shared that Apple Music now has a “small margin” ahead of Spotify’s paid user numbers. Notably, both services are said to have around 20 million paid subscribers. Worldwide, Apple Music still remains behind Spotify with 45 million paid subscribers compared to the 70 million individuals who pay to use the latter service. If this rate of growth stays consistent, Apple Music will continue to beat Spotify in the U.S. market.

We’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available. Most recently, Apple Music gave The Weeknd and Brockhampton their own Beats 1 radio shows.
