Last month, Meek Mill was released from prison after the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania issued an order to liberate the Philadelphia native on unsecured bail. In the wake of his release, Meek sat down with Lester Holt for a Dateline NBC special titled “Dreams and Nightmares: The Meek Mill Story.” The episode was previewed almost two weeks ago but aired in-full last night, May 6.

The Dreamchaser rapper, who has been on probation for drug and weapons charges since 2007, spent five months behind bars after receiving a two-to-four year prison sentence. Meek Mill’s case has brought a crucial spotlight on the various problems with the United States’s criminal justice system; “I had eight years of probation that turned to 16 years of probation,” he said, “something is not working.”

The Dateline episode also saw interviews from Meek’s family and Michael Rubin, the Philadelphia 76ers co-owner. Meek is also teaming up with Amazon Prime Video to tell his story via a new documentary series.
