Nintendo Sold 10 Million Switches in Just 9 Months
Big numbers for the humble console.

Nintendo enjoyed a thoroughly positive year — it debuted triple-A titles in the form of Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Pokémon GO continues to enjoy a robust player base, and sales for the SNES Classic were similarly optimistic. This all contributed to the company’s boosted quarterly report. On top of all this, Nintendo announces that its Switch is enjoying robust sales of its own.
Released on March 3 of this year, the console enjoyed quick success, with over 10 million units sold globally. The $300 console was at a mere 7.6 million back in September — Nintendo now expects to sell 14 million Switches by March 2018. This sets up the system to overtake the Wii U in total sales, which only broke 13 million units over five years. Meanwhile, the company best-seller, the Wii, sold over 100 million units during its lifetime.
Although these are good numbers, Nintendo has ways to go before it overtakes the current most popular console, Sony’s PlayStation 4.
