Jayson Tatum's Jordan Tatum 1 Is the Jumpman's Lightest Hoops Shoe Ever
The Celtics’ superstar’s first signature is equipped with mesh knit uppers, a stabilizing TPU side cage and Zoom cushioning.
The team over at Jordan Brand knew that they got themselves a bonafide baller when they signed Jayson Tatum in 2019. Since then, the St. Louis native has racked up four NBA All-Star appearances, a duo of All-NBA selections, was named the NBA Eastern Conference Finals Most Valuable Player in 2022 and led his Boston Celtics squad to another NBA Finals appearance. He’s earned his stripes in the Association and the time has come for the Jumpman to reward him for his accomplishments with his own signature sneaker: the Jordan Tatum 1.
Tatum’s new line is designed for far the future of basketball and will allow his fans across the globe to authentically connect with him. “I want people to feel like they can connect to me” Tatum says. “I remember being a kid, walking into the store, and looking for the signature shoes of my favorite players. The moment I saw the shoe or put the shoe on, I felt like I was in sync and closer to them in a way. So, I want this shoe to be a bridge between my fans and me to bring us closer together.”
The Jordan Tatum 1 is Jordan Brand‘s lightest basketball sneaker ever made. One of the biggest reasons why Tatum thrives in the NBA is because he’s a position-less hooper. He can bring the ball up the court with his effective handle. He’s a natural scorer can knock down the mid-range and has an improving long ball, and he can guard pretty much any position on the floor. So when crafting this new silhouette, Jordan Brand made sure to design a product that was modeled after his versatile game. It had to be able to withstand his forceful movements and be light enough so that his quickness and agility on the floor could shine.
Design-wise, the sneaker is anchored by a light-yet-strong TPU frame which provides Tatum and future customers with the structure and torsional stability that is needed to make hard cuts, defensive slides and tomahawk jams. Base layers are forced a breathable mesh knit and come reinforced by padded collars for extra support around the ankles. Stuffed inside the forefoot of the midsole unit is an uncaged Zoom Air bag which provides ballers with responsive energy return on the court.
There’s a myriad of special details that nod to his personal life. The phrase “I Just Didn’t Quit” — which is tattooed on his calf is situated on the TPU piece along with the coordinates for his hometown of St. Louis. “Living Proof” is printed on the outer sections of the rubber which calls out his relationship with Bradley Beal and how he served as a mentor to Tatum throughout his journey to the league. A “0” lands on the heels to represent his uniform number while his signature “JT” logo adorns the tongues and his son’s name “Deuce’ arrives on the three out of the first four launch colorways.
The first iterations of the Jordan Tatum 1 that will trickle out to the public include the “Zoo” makeup which features wild tiger and leopard prints to represent Tatum taking Deuce to the public animal facilities, the “St. Louis” iteration that is graced with retro Cardinals colors and the name of his childhood home’s street Archer Ave. on the tongues, the “Barbershop” rendition that salutes his viral warm-up video of calling himself “Top 5” whenever he gets a fresh chop and the “Pink Leomonade” colorway that calls out his favorite beverage.
The “Zoo” colorway will kick off Tatum’s line and touch down on April 7. 2023 in full family sizes. The rest of the installments will be launched over April, May and June. Prices are as follows: $120 USD for adults, $90 USD for grade school, $75 USD for pre-school and $55 USD for toddlers.
With this new chapter, Tatum becomes the Jumpman’s seventh signature basketball athlete and joins the likes of Michael Jordan, Zion Williamson, Luka Dončić, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook.
