"Dwell Outdoors Together": Snow Peak Opens Expansive Portland Flagship Store
The new space hosts retail shopping, Snow Peak HQ and a forthcoming restaurant.
First introduced earlier this year, the debut of Snow Peak‘s revamped Portland flagship store was delayed due to coronavirus but the finishing touches are in place and the Japanese outdoor brand is ready to welcome guests to the new space. Part flagship boutique, part brand HQ, the new building is a celebration of Snow Peak’s 21 years in Portland.
With 15,000 square feet at its disposal, the new outpost is more than large enough to display every aspect of Snow Peak’s aspirational lifestyle gear, plus provide room for its 40 employees to work. Imagined by Snow Peak, Skylab Architecture, Portland Garment Factory and Stage Plan, the building makes ample use of natural light and organic flourishes to recall the expeditions that the brand is fond of hosting.
Reclaimed timber walls are stacked in homage to traditional Japanese wooden scaffolding — mirroring Portland Garment Factory’s Japanese textile accents seen throughout — granting the first floor a rugged feel, while the second story offers a lighter palette so as to evoke the feeling of a vertical journey towards the sky. Plenty of open space allows staff to host demonstrations and events and the first floor cafe invites guests to enjoy a drink created with Snow Peak’s own tools
