Olivia Wilde to Reportedly Direct Female-Fronted Marvel Film at Sony
With the project billed as “a high priority since the top of the year.”

According to sources, Olivia Wilde will be directing a female-led Marvel film for Sony.
While details of the project and the lead character are still under wraps, many are speculating the film to be a Spider-Woman title. Deadline revealed that the Spider-Woman project “has been a high priority since the top of the year,” and is billed as the second female-fronted Marvel title under Sony’s roof following the Madame Webb film.
Wilde will be joined by Katie Silberman, Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Connor, who will serve as the scriptwriter, producer and executive producer respectively.
The actress and filmmaker released her debut feature film Booksmart in 2019 and received positive review from critics, winning Wilde the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature.
News of Wilde’s role as director arrives shortly after it was reported that Candyman director Nia DaCosta will be replacing Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck to helm Captain Marvel 2.
