Nia DaCosta will reportedly be taking over the role of director for Captain Marvel 2.

According to sources, Marvel met with other directors but DaCosta “seemed to have the edge for some time.” If reports are accurate, the Candyman director will replace Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and will be joined by WandaVision story editor Megan McDonnell as the sequel’s scriptwriter.

Despite receiving a number of misogynistic comments, the first Captain Marvel film grossed over $1 billion USD worldwide and is just the seventh Marvel title to achieve this feat.

Captain Marvel 2 will see the return of Brie Larson as Carol Danvers and is scheduled to premiere on July 8, 2022, as part of the MCU Phase 4.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Mulan will skip its American theatrical release and head straight to Disney+.
