Freddie Gibbs Links With Machinedrum for New "Kane Train" Single
“I can never bend, I do not fold.”
Today in unexpected collaborations: Freddie Gibbs and Machinedrum connect for their new single “Kane Train” from the producer’s upcoming A View of U out October 9 via Ninja Tune. Simply put, Gibbs’ hot streak continues. He raps in double-time, a near breathless display of his technical prowess.
This is far from the first time that Gibbs has ventured into electronic territory. In recent months he’s collaborated with producer Adam Snow for “9 to 5” and “42.” The now 38-year-old Gary, Indiana rapper has made somewhat electronic turns with lophiile’s “Off Top,” FEYNMAN’s mysterious and eerie “THE WAVE” and Kaytranada’s “My Dope House.” You could even argue that his 2015 collaboration with Young Thug and A$AP Ferg, “Old English” is of similar origin.
Gibbs’ bars continue to rattle off stream-of-consciousness stories of internal struggles, street life and an unapologetic independence that got him to where he is today. “Bitches young Corleone, Soprano baby Tony/ Straight out that East Side, my breakfast was eggs and fried baloney/ Can’t politic if you neutral, I fuck with members only/ I pulled up their face with choppas, bitch, I ain’t send the homies.” Machinedrum’s production is triumphant and horn-heavy.
Earlier this year, the veteran joined HYPEBEAST for our “Freddie Gibbs’ Name Holds Weight” feature surrounding his recent Alfredo album. “The fact that Young Jeezy tried to sh*t on me drives me every day. And I don’t give a f*ck about Young Jeezy because he’s musically irrelevant but I use that thing in the back of my head to motivate me every day when I get in the booth to try and thrash that n*gga. When I get in the booth I be trying to prove that motherf*cker wrong who said I wasn’t sh*t in high school,” he declared. It’s safe to say that his motivation to be one of the best rappers of his generation isn’t going anywhere.
A View of U will also feature Father and Chrome Sparks when it launches later this year. Listen to “Kane Train” and check out the tracklist below. In more music news, The Streets and IDLES dropped their new music video for “None of Us Are Getting Out of This Life Alive.”
