The past year has seen New Balance exploring some adventurous new territory but New Balance Japan has already tested the waters outside of the American companies comfort zone with its fashion-forward Waist to Toe program, offering sneakerheads comfy layering pieces and cropped pants intended to be paired with New Balance sneakers. For Spring/Summer 2020, NB JP expands its apparel lineup with the “Modern Classic” collection, updating heritage Japanese silhouettes with contemporary fabrication.
Traditional garments, like happi jackets and short-length jinbeisuits are reinvented with lightweight textiles rendered in timeless Aizome indigo and granted resistance to water and wrinkles. Matching shorts and no less than four different styles of cropped pant are also on hand, complete with elasticated waists, zippered pockets and reflective branding that lend subtly sporty detailing to the refined silhouettes. A small accessories range rounds out the collection, including a shopper bag, bucket hat and branded socks, all designed to team perfectly with the wearer’s New Balance collection.
The “Modern Classic” collection, like the Waist to Toe line, is available domestically via New Balance Japan’s web store.
Most recently, New Balance issued its first-ever Made in Japan sneaker.
