Drake and Headie One Connect for New Song "Only You Freestyle"
With Drake anointing Headie as “the best drill artist in the world.”
Drake and Headie One have teamed up for their new “Only You Freestyle” complete with a music video directed by Nathan James Tettey and Theo Skudra. The M1 On The Beat-produced surprise single finds Drake and Headie trading rapid-fire flows in a dizzying display of lyrical sparring. It’s an iron-sharpens-iron situation that promotes mutual respect and their ever-diverse skillsets.
Drake’s infatuation with the UK Drill scene expands far beyond his recent tracks like “War” and “Demons” (or the entirety of his Dark Lane Demo Tapes mixtape which was filled with sonics inspired from the region). Recently, Drake gave Headie’s “Rose Gold” a major cosign on social media. “I had to go hard, especially on a track with one of the best drill artists in the world,” Drake stated in a recent press release. “Scratch that — the best drill artist in the world.”
It’s a more than bold proclamation, but with Headie’s recent output including his collaborative GANG project with Fred again.. (which was one of HYPEBEAST’s “Top 25 Albums of 2020… So Far”) the 26-year-old Tottenham, North London rapper can definitely throw his name in for consideration. Drake has been busy as of late, readying his upcoming sixth studio project that’s set to release later this year. Just last week he connected with DJ Khaled for two new singles “POPSTAR” and “GREECE” from the producer’s Khaled Khaled compilation.
