JPEGMAFIA Taps Denzel Curry for "BALD!" Remix and Music Video
Featuring a must-listen verse from Denzel.
JPEGMAFIA and Denzel Curry are staying busy this year. Peggy has been consistently delivering 20-minute documentaries surrounding his life, creative process and collaborators on a weekly basis as well as offering up surprise singles. Meanwhile, Denzel teamed up with Kenny Beats for a 30-minute animated short film, coinciding with UNLOCKED, and even a limited edition comic book. Now they’ve teamed up for the “BALD!” Remix and music video.
Directed by JPEGMAFIA, the visual follows the same grainy, VHS-filtered DIY format as the ongoing How To Build A Relationship documentary series. There’s an unexpected beat switch during the first half of Denzel’s verse as he raps, “My life was written already so I was gifted already/ And with this God-given talent I knew the Devil been met me/ Can’t compare me to Jesus because he ain’t Noah’s father/ He told me, ‘Please be still and see that steel is revolver.’”
The video was shot in front of a convenient store and inside a studio for an overall impromptu vibe, but the track is polished and showcases Denzel’s rich storytelling and lyrical dexterity. He basically blacks out and raps one of 2020’s best verses for two straight minutes.
Peggy continues to drop off what’s seemingly a continual stream of new content. This track follows his collaboration with Channel Tres for “I’m attached (lucy demo)” and a new music video for his auto-tuned ballad “BODYGUARD!”.
