Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats Have a Comic Book Based on Their 'UNLOCKED' Album (UPDATE)
The ‘UNLOCKED’ instrumental version is now available to stream.
UPDATE (May 1, 2020): Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats‘ UNLOCKED: Instrumental version has arrived. The eight-track project spans 17 minutes and showcases Kenny’s immense attention to detail and just how much he branched off to experiment on this project in particular. The release follows the initial 30-minute UNLOCKED short film and the album that followed.
“UNLOCKED is so much more than a few songs, it’s a feeling we all have,” Kenny Beats said of the project. “For the first time I’m releasing my instrumentals because I truly believe these beats can live on their own. Put them on while you read the comic and stay tuned for part two.”

ORIGINAL STORY (April 29, 2020): Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats delivered one of the more surprising and ambitious projects of 2020 when they set off on a 30-minute UNLOCKED animated adventure and then proceeded to drop eight new tracks in a dynamic and experimental EP. Now the duo has announced another creative endeavor: a 48-page comic book based on the illustrations and narrative of the short film alongside an UNLOCKED: Instrumentals album set to debut Friday, May 1.
To celebrate the occasion, Denzel and Kenny released an animated informercial announcing the upcoming release. The comic book features original illustrations from all of the artists featured in the Psycho Films-produced project: Sam Hochman, Joey Prosser, Forrest Whaley, Justin Johnson, Chaz Bottoms, Malik Bolton, Rachel Headlam, Borboev Shakhnazer and Asekov Tilek. It’s limited to just a 2,000 print run and will come with a vinyl flexi-disc insert featuring the song “DIET_”.
“I always wanted artwork to accompany the film and the album,” Denzel continued. “It just made sense, On Imperial we put out a zine with unreleased photos from the album cover shoot and previous tour run. With UNLOCKED I wanted to do another booklet, It just made sense to turn it into a comic.”
