JPEGMAFIA Continues His Quarantine Visuals With "BODYGUARD!"
Peggy’s fourth single of 2020 is an emotional auto-tuned ballad.
JPEGMAFIA returns with a new melodic and autotune-driven single “BODYGUARD!” featuring an accompanying music video.
The visual is as minimalist as the emotional ballad, with Peggy singing in front of a vibrant royal blue backdrop, alone in an empty room. The vibe is similar to his recent covers of Mariah Carey and Carley Rae Jepson during overseas tour stops.
“Why you wanna hurt me babe/ How you see through my act/ Please hit me back/ Girl don’t be like that/ You know I want it/ I know you want the/ Credit cards/ The fancy cars/ I know you want the world…” JPEGMAFIA sings, eventually coming to the conclusion, “I don’t want it with nobody but you/ No protection with nobody but you you you/ Bodyguard.” It wouldn’t be at all surprising if this was a reference to Whitney Houston’s 1992 film of the same name given the rapper-producer’s eclectic tastes.
JPEGMAFIA has been one of the most prolific artists during the current coronavirus quarantines, releasing weekly half-hour documentary episodes through his How To Build A Relationship series featuring chats with friends and collaborators like Omar Apollo, Kenny Beats and Danny Brown. They’ve been intimate glimpses into his creative life and each has revealed the artist’s need to release music independently and on his own terms in 2020.
“BODYGUARD!” follows “Millennium Freestyle”, “Covered In Money!” and “BALD!” each available to stream through his official YouTube page. While some of the singles have appeared on streaming services, there’s no word yet on if others will arrive in the future.
