JPEGMAFIA Is on an Evening Rampage in "Covered In Money" Music Video
“I’m upset I ain’t mad.”
JPEGMAFIA is staying busy. Following his critically-acclaimed All My Heroes Are Cornballs last year, he’s taking a new approach to how he drops music in 2020, taking back control of his output and basically doing whatever he wants. His ongoing How To Build A Relationship documentary series has been an intimate glimpse into his life while on the road. He spent Part 1 with Danny Brown and covered Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby”. In Part 2, Peggy caught up with Lykke Li and introduced another new cover: Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”. Then last week, he debuted Part 3 where he spent the episode playing Nintendo Switch with Orville Peck and lecturing at Cambridge.
His new music video, “Covered In Money,” much like its predecessor, “BALD!” follows Peggy’s thought process on releases this year, as he told the Cambridge Union crowd in Part 3 of his documentary series last week:
“I’m just gonna be doing whatever the f*ck I want this year. I tried to do the, release the album the proper way, the little music industry sh*t – it’s stupid and it’s annoying and it doesn’t lend itself to artists. So for me, I’m stripping that away and taking it straight to the fans. I’m gonna make sh*t and if I wanna put it out, I just put it out straight to the fans, period.”
“I’m covered in money/ I’m out for the bag/ I flew out the country/ borderline dressing in drag/ I brought you a Hearse/ Hope you fit in the back/ Im poking it out/ Nicki Minaj/ The Meek getting dragged/ B*tch I’m upset/ I ain’t mad,” he raps in the song’s opening with drums kicking back and forth to throw you off the beat.
“Covered In Money” features a beat switch at the two minute mark, slowing things down to match the grainy night-vision vibes. The visual was directed by JPEGMAFIA and shot by Sihonara.
