'Fortnite' Officially Introduces "Party Royale" Mode for Live In-Game DJ Performances
Dillon Francis, Steve Aoki, and deadmau5 will host back-to-back-to-back live sets on May 8.
Following its initial preview of the mode with Diplo and Jordan Fisher last week, Epic Games has officially introduced its new “Party Mode” to Fortnite. The new mode removes the title’s guns and building mechanics to allow players to hang out and watch live performances in-game via the performance location’s main stage. Although the experience is mostly meant to be viewed, players can still race boats and skydive if they choose.
The mode will officially launch May 8 with back-to-back-to-back live sets from Dillon Francis, Steve Aoki, and deadmau5.
The debut comes as Fortnite celebrates its 350 million registered players milestone as well as 3.2 billion in-game hours in April 2020 alone. These achievements can be largely attributed to Diplo and Travis Scott’s virtual concerts last month month, as well as the ongoing COVID-19 quarantine keeping folks inside.
The live broadcast is expected to take place on May 8 at 9 p.m. EDT until 10 p.m. EDT. An encore show will happen the following day from 2 p.m. EDT to 3 p.m. EDT. Unlike previous shows, there will be no queue to join the event, allowing players to jump in whenever they want during the allotted time of broadcast. Epic Games will also offer attendees “party favors” that include the “Neon Wings Back Bling” cosmetic for anyone who logs in between May 8 at 6 p.m. through May 11 at 10 p.m.
