Donald Glover Pitches Plot for Potential 'Community' Movie
Right after the charity table read.
The cast of Community recently got back together for a Zoom table read for charity, but while fans were delighted with the reunion, they nonetheless haven’t given up on the goal of six seasons and a movie. With the Russo Brothers and fans both optimistic about the possibility of a film now that the show has migrated over to Netflix, it’s no surprise that the cast members themselves are entertaining the idea, and it seems there’s already a potential plot for it. During the Q&A session right after the table read, Donald Glover — who plays Troy — pitched his idea for what the movie could entail.
“What am I doing, am I writing the movie on the fly or something?” Glover said. “He’s probably lost. I feel like it’s like Abed’s gotta find him. I like those movies.” Danny Pudi responded: “I love the idea of Troy being lost, and Abed’s mission is to go find him, try to track someone down — that would be fun,” while the show’s creator Dan Harmon pretends to jot it down on a notepad, saying “It writes itself…just put in some Die Hard references.”
As to a realistic chance for a movie, Harmon says that he prefers to keep expectations low, but there has been conversations taking place and will continue to take place in the near future: “I mean, when you’re part of the Community family, you learn never to raise expectations, keep ‘em nice and low and then be pleasantly surprised. So I can say that there are conversations happening that people would want to be happening and that I’m very, very excited about the coming months.”
