The Berrics' 'Best of Battle Scars' Is a Painfully Good Crash Compilation
Nearly nine minutes of the gnarliest skateboarding slams you’ll ever see — and the stories behind them.
The Berrics‘ Battle Scars series showcases various skaters’ gnarliest slams, and the latest installment in the long-running series is a painfully good Best of Battle Scars, a “greatest hits” compilation of sorts. Pro skaters may make absurd flip tricks and impossible rails look easy in clips and video parts, but “no pain, no gain” is an adage that rings true in the world of skateboarding. Best of Battle Scars is a direct acknowledgement of the pain that often accompanies the process of sticking those “banger” tricks.
Nearly nine minutes long, the video is not for the faint of heart. Highlights include Tony Hawk discussing breaking his ribs while trying to land a 900 — an accident that caused him to be late in picking up his son, Riley Hawk, from preschool that day. There’s much more too: Leticia Bufoni speaks candidly about being carried out of Street League on a stretcher after attempting a gap to lipslide, and Jamie Foy riffs on flying spread-eagled through the air when attempting to jump a homemade gap on his childhood sidewalk.
