Revealed last year in an editorial, Jerry Lorenzo recently announced that the Friends & Family Nike Air Fear of God Raid is set to release this year.

Taking to Instagram, the Fear of God designer noted that the “F&F” take on the collaborative shoe will be releasing sometime this summer. “Yes, the friends and family Air Raid is releasing sometime this summer. Of all the sneakers I’ve designed (mainline, Nike, Vans, Zegna, Essentials, etc), this is by far my favorite.”

Lorenzo also noted that the upcoming colorway will also feature some tooling differences that weren’t seen on the previous “Black” and “Light Bone” releases. “I feel like we modernized this shoe perfectly. Unlike the bone and black general releases, we hid the laces under the straps for a cleaner toe box. Had we had one more round of sampling with the bone and black Raids, I would have removed the laces on those also. As much as I love those two, the laces felt slightly like an over-designed element I wish I had removed.

In a separate Instagram post, Lorenzo also revealed that he has another Nike Basketball apparel range coming this year. Offering a brief look, we get an idea of what is being called the “black bulls-inspired warm-up jacket” which expected to be a lead item included in the range.

going to answer a few comments and dm’s since i have some down time… yes, the friends and family air raid is releasing sometime this summer… of all the sneakers i’ve designed (mainline, nike, vans, zegna, essentials, etc) this is by far my favorite… equal parts 1992 and 2022… at the time of the og air raid in 92, before allen iverson emerged, tim hardaway was my favorite player… this was his shoe. this shoe acknowledges tim, tinker’s first off-court basketball sneaker and also my first off-court sneaker with nike… also the raid has been my favorite all-time nike outside of the jordan legacy… the most drug dealer chic of all nike’s in the 90s… humbly i feel like we modernized this shoe perfectly… unlike the bone and black general releases we hid the laces under the straps for a cleaner toe box… had we had one more round of sampling with the bone and black raids, i would have removed the laces on those also… as much as i love those two, the laces felt slightly like an over-designed element i wish i had removed… anyhow, be that as it may… my favorite all-time sneaker will see a larger release and i’m super happy about it… dm or comment with any more questions and i’ll do my best to address a few on this lazy sunday… ?

to answer more of your questions, yes, we have another @nikebasketball apparel collection releasing sometime this summer… this black bulls inspired warm-up jacket will be apart of that collection… these images were shot heading into all-star weekend earlier this year…. @garyland and i had a loose story of how many of our heroes today, before walking into their own destiny and becoming icons in their own right; they once looked up to michael jordan… with kobe’s recent passing, we thought we’d omit the above images… and didn’t feel the time was right to share… like jay-z said on @jayelectronica ‘a latest album, our intention was not to selfishly bring attention to our collection thru the light of kobe’s untimely passing… but to honor him in this rare off-court moment. however this could have easily been mis-interpreted… (just like our homage to AI was misinterpreted by many)… so we left these images out. be that as it may, God knows where my heart is in sharing these images… we all have heroes and idols that we look up to, that is until God shows us who we really are and we walk in the destiny of our own story, our focus shifts solely on Him… sometimes idols become rivals… and thru faith in the above and the fight with competition down here, you become and find your own man… that was the story… having faith in the middle of uncertainty and in the midst of questions… #ripkobe i’ll always be more inspired by the dad you were than anything else. ?
