'Parasite' Sets Record-Breaking 234 Percent Increase in Ticket Sales After Oscars
The Bong Joon-ho film made history with its Best Picture win.

Following a historical series of wins at the 2020 Oscars, Bong Joon-ho‘s Parasite has collected a new box office record.
According to reports, the dark comedy thriller accumulated $5.5 million USD over the weekend, reflecting a whopping 234 percent increase in ticket sales to become the largest post-Oscar boost for a Best Picture winner in the last 10 years. The week following the Oscars ceremony saw the South Korean film make 20 percent of its domestic sum with $8.8 million USD, adding to an overall total of $44 million USD in the United States.
Earlier this February, Parasite received a wider North American theatrical release, with Neon expanding its showing from 1,060 domestic theaters to more than 2,000 locations.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Mark Hamill is joining the He-Man reboot as Skeletor.
