Arca Releases New 62-Minute Experimental Single "@@@@@"
The artist’s first official release since 2017’s ‘Arca.’
Arca continues to release ambitious experimentally-charged sonic offerings. Following an update to Frank Ocean’s “Little Demon” single featuring Skepta late last year and some involvement in the Halloween installment of Frank’s “PrEP+” Party Series, the artist returns with the first official new music since the self-titled Arca LP. The 62-minute single “@@@@@” premiered on NTS Radio through a collaboration with DIVA EXPERIMENTAL FM. Arca explained the inspiration behind the new hour-long project in an official press release:
““@@@@@” is a transmission broadcasted into this world from a speculative fictional universe in which the fundamentally analogue format of FM pirate radio remains one of few means to escape authoritarian surveillance powered by a hostage sentience gestated by a post-singularity AI. The host of the show, known as DIVA EXPERIMENTAL lives across multiple bodies in space in virtue of her persecution — in order to kill her, one would first have to find all of her bodies. The bodies that host her carry fetishes for paralinguistics, breaking the fourth wall and nurturing a mutant faith in love in the face of fear.”
“@@@@@” follows 2013’s “&&&&&” and is meant to be a “kindred spirit” to that project “in that they are each a musical quanta, constituted by morphing sonic quantums.” Late last year, Arca also announced a two-year musical takeover of the MoMA Lobby, providing the soundtrack to the iconic NYC space. She will also begin her North America tour starting this April. Tickets will be available Thursday, February 20 at 10AM EST. View the full dates below.
