PUMA Sets a High Score with Latest RS-X³ "Sonic The Hedgehog"

PUMA‘s RS-X³ sneaker has appeared in yet another Sonic The Hedgehog-inspired colorway. With game-influenced details and familiar motifs, the shoe is a multifaceted nod to Sega‘s signature character, and an apt follow-up to the first Sonic-themed RS-X³ that released in November of 2019.

Enclosed in a translucent textured sheath, the upper mixes tan, powder blue and black tones on its base layer. The flat Formstripe graphic is rimmed by zigzagging tan and blue stitching, with white leather overlays on the toebox, midfoot and eyestays providing layered style. Heels present a blue suede layer with three gold rings, a debossed black Sonic graphic and a strike of metallic gold for opulent flair. Further gold branding appears on the tongue, which features a Sonic/RS-X graphic. The three top eyelets take on colored details, and black laces tie the top half together.

Down below, the thick midsole is split between white and yellow, and features a text graphic on the heel that nods to game time, high scores and the number of rings collected — the three most important things in the Sonic universe. Red, blue and yellow outsoles proffer a final pop of visible style, and insoles show the silhouette of PUMA’s leaping cat and Sonic’s visage alike to complete the look.

The PUMA RS-X³ “Sonic The Hedgehog” is set to release on the PUMA webstore come February 7 as part of a special capsule collection. The MSRP is set at $120 USD.

PUMA also recently tapped Chinese brand Randomevent for a four-shoe capsule collection that includes silhouettes like the CELL. Endura and Alteration.
