88rising and Hajime Sorayama Link Up for AR Merch Collaboration
Physical product with an accompanying digital experience.
Following two previous merch releases surrounding the release of the Head in the Clouds II album in 2019, 88rising is starting 2020 off strong with a third and final collaborative collection with artist Hajime Sorayama, who also designed the album’s celebrated cover. This time around, the collection comes with a virtual component in the form of an augmented reality experience available through Instagram.
The nine-piece collection contains a new range of apparel, including a heavyweight fleece, technical outerwear, T-shirts and more. Additionally, this new drop features skate decks and an embroidered baseball cap. Most pieces in the range are complete with Sorayama’s illustrations, often highlighting his signature female robots. Key pieces include a jacket with a removable laser-quilted liner, a black crewneck featuring an enlarged Sorayama robot and a white skate deck with a futuristic 88rising logo and a detail of one of Sorayama’s works.
Sorayama’s artwork found throughout the collection has been digitized, allowing users to fully immerse themselves in animated AR versions of his work via Snapchat and Instagram. 3D filters will also be available to use through 88NIGHTMARKET’s Instagram account.
The full collection is currently available on the 88NIGHTMARKET web store and will be available shortly on HBX.
