PUMA has given its RS-X³ sneaker two retro reinterpretations with help from Sonic The Hedgehog and the Rubik’s Cube brand. The silhouette was introduced in October this year and has already seen a number of iterations, such as the bold “Hot Coral” and “Lime Punch” offerings.

This time around, the chunky PUMA adopts the color palettes from Sonic and the Rubik’s Cube for two striking looks. The Sonic pair comes in black, mixing leather, suede and mesh together alongside the character’s archetype color scheme of red and blue. These signature colors are used to highlight the stitching and piping throughout, as well as graphic details such as “RINGS 50” and a Sonic head emblem on the sole unit.

Sonic‘s head is etched into the rear heel tab alongside debossed, tonal rings, and the interior is lined with a fitting checkerboard racing-inspired print.

The Rubik’s Cube offering takes a more daring approach by adding all of the colors found on the puzzle. Black outlines serve as the base on a Rubik’s Cube, so PUMA has used this for the sneaker’s base mesh segments. Overlaying this is a mixture of suede and mesh panels that appear in blue, orange, yellow, red and green, as well as a checkerboard print to further reference the puzzle.

Rounding off the Rubik’s Cube-inspired RS-X³ is black branding on the heel tab, a color-split outsole and a trio of cubes acting as a lace lock. Alongside the shoes will be a capsule collection celebrating both retro games, with the Sonic collaboration releasing a T-shirt, hoodie, beanie and crossbody bag, and the Rubik’s Cube collaboration releasing sweatshirts and T-shirts.

The PUMA RS-X³ Sonic and Rubik’s Cube collaboration releases on November 21 at PUMA.com and select retailers for $120 USD. The full Sonic capsule will be available on February 7, 2020.

In case you missed it, check out the PUMA RS-X³ Puzzle in “Char Rose” and “Limestone.”
