Paul Smith Japan Subtly Upgrades Converse's Chuck Taylor With Splashes of Color
The British designer’s sporty stripes inform the sneaker.
Paul Smith‘s signature “Sports Stripe” detailing appears on much of the label’s seasonal clothing and accessories, an reflection of the designer’s whimsical design ethos. Though Smith’s brand is beloved in his native Britain, Japan is perhaps even more devoted to the menswear legend, with Converse Japan recruiting Smith’s stripes for a remixed sneaker silhouette.
Launching as Japanese branch of the footwear label continues to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the Chuck Taylor, Paul Smith’s PS sub-label delivers a suitably understated take on the classic sneaker. A white canvas Chuck Taylor High retains the classic white rubber midsole (with glossy toecap) and black foxing stripe, making for the perfect canvas upon which to subtly add in color. Smith’s “Sports Stripe” is executed vertically on the heel of the sneaker, with a complementary rainbow accent inside the Converse star logo on the medial side. A co-branded React insole completes the versatile sneaker.
Expect the exclusive style to hit Paul Smith’s Japanese web store and domestic outposts on October 5.
