Grimes Releases Fantastical Music Video for New "Violence" Single
With ‘Miss_Anthropocene’ set to drop later this year.
Earlier this year, Grimes announced Miss_Anthropocene would be released later this year, the newest album since Art Angels in 2015. Most recently, Grimes released a music video for her latest single “Violence,” with electronic music producer i_o.
The video opens with Grimes reading The Art of War, which leads to a choreographed dance sequence with a group of female dancers. Dressed in goddess-like garments, a nod to her upcoming album “about the anthropomorphic Goddess of Climate Change,” Grimes’ intense dance sequence, which includes swords and longbows, contrasts with her ethereal vocals and synth-pop beats.
Grimes explains her latest single: “I was like, Man, I’ve produced five albums. I just want to make an album in a month that I just work with my favorite producers. I hit i_o up and we made this song up in an hour. And then I was just like, this must go on the album because it just feels good.” Grimes also teased a collaboration with Charlie XCX on Miss_Anthropocene. She continues, “We do have a song together but we haven’t actually finished it… Well, [we] have a psychotic techno song — but we want to make a pop song too, but we haven’t started it yet. But we really need to start it.”
