Yohji Yamamoto and Dr. Martens Drop Six-Eye Side Gore Boots

The 101 YY GUSSET upgrades a winter staple with easy access.

Yohji Yamamoto and Dr. Martens continue their fruitful seasonal collaborations with another elevated footwear model for Fall/Winter 2019. The “101 YY GUSSET” retains key components of classic Dr. Martens shoes, bolstered by a special addition to allow for extra comfort.

Taking the form of a familiar six-eye boot, the new shoe is crafted from premium black leather, sturdy enough for torrid winter storms and slush alike. A single gold eyelet, black stitching on the sole and dual pull tabs are some of the boot’s more subtle additions; the most glaring upgrade is an elastic gusset on the lateral side, a feature that’s both stylistically distinctive and functionally appealing.

With the new detail, the wearer may keep the laces as tight as they’d please, and simply slide their foot in or out by stretching the now-elasticated shaft, blending the comfort of a Chelsea boot with an adjustable fit that comes from having laces. Dr. Martens’ signature slip-resistant sole, contrasting yellow stitching on the upper and a co-branded leather insole complete the revised design.

Expect Yamamoto’s latest Dr. Martens collaboration to hit Japanese stockists on July 10 for ¥74,000 JPY (approximately $680 USD).

Most recently, Yamamoto served up more collaborative New Era hats for summer.
