New Balance Honors British Craft With Hybrid "Summer Nine" Made In UK Pack
Mashing up the 990 outsole with NB’s classic
New Balance is taking a moment to celebrate the craft offered by its Flimby-based factory with the “Summer Nine” pack. Kicking off a series of Made In UK releases, the collection’s inaugural silhouettes are some of New Balance’s latest hybrid styles, blending contemporary taste with classic design.
On hand are a New Balance 770.9, 1500.9 and 991.9; all of the shoes boast uppers sourced from their namesake sneakers — i.e. a 1500’s upper — atop a 990v3‘s sole unit. The resulting blends make for surprisingly natural fits, with the 991.9 looking most like its original iteration.
Mixed pigskin suede panels on the uppers lend the Frankenstein creations a luxe touch, with an effortless color palette juxtaposing blue hues against grey panels, except for the monochrome 991.9. Black heel panels on all of the shoes aid in grounding the adventurous makeups, while each style mashes up lightly contrasting mesh panels with the aforementioned suede for a hit of textural intrigue.
The “Summer Nine” 770.9, 1500.9 and 991.9 are all available on New Balance’s site for $199.99 USD apiece.
Most recently, New Balance’s American-made 997 received a muted, pink-tinged revision.
