Kehlani 'Butterfly' Video Showcases Talent From Oakland School for the Arts
The singer tapped students and teachers from her middle school for the visuals.
After releasing her While We Wait album in late February, Kehlani has unveiled the official music video for her single, “Butterfly.” Directed by Trey Lyons, the visuals paint a story of metamorphosis, growth and beauty through dance, mood-setting lighting and a luminous wardrobe.
Kehlani tapped 14-year-old twin brothers, known simply as the Omar Twinz, to choreograph a dance and star in the video alongside her. To find the duo, she ventured back to her middle school, Oakland School for the Arts, where she also recruited former teacher “Mr. Revon” to construct the cocoon-like set design. Meanwhile, her past costume professor “Ms. Linda” crafted the singer’s life-size wings. To further give back, the two-time Grammy-nominated artist also brought in assistance from current students throughout the process.
“Thank you Oakland School for the Arts for cultivating such a beautiful community, and teaching me so much of what I use today in my career,” she said in an Instagram post.
